The 113 Calhoun Street project provides a laboratory, demonstration site, and classroom for hazard resistant building materials that public and private research institutions across the nation are developing, including Clemson University's Wind Load Test Facility.  The natural hazard mitigation education program goals include:

1. Improving stake holder capacity to mitigate against natural hazards and contributing to the protection of homes, workplaces, communities, and livelihoods from the impacts of hazards;

2. Creating a stronger, more hazard-resistant built environment through the application of research-based information on hazard-resistant construction methods and building materials; and

3. Increasing public awareness of and the demand for homes that are more resistant to natural hazards.
