Mission: To provide
a research and training center for on-site and distance-learning about
alternative building systems with emphasis on sustainability, structural
performance, energy efficiency, durability, maintenance, and construction
costs. The Park will consist of a series of identical structures,
each built out of a different building system. A central data acquisition
system will provide continuous data collection. On-site and virtual
access will provide statewide and national access to the Park buildings. |

Mission: The intent
of this demonstration project is to highlight readily available products
and procedures for new and existing Florida homes and yards. The house
features an energy-saving passive cooling design and many cost-effective
and affordable building methods and materials available through off-the-shelf
technology. The Florida House teaches through demonstration the principles
of Environmental Landscape Management, energy and water conservation, the
use of recycled and recyclable products, as well as least toxic building
materials and indoor air quality. |

Mission: Located in
Deerfield Beach, Fla., the Good Neighbor House displays the most hurricane-resistant
materials and building technology available anywhere. Designed by State
Farm, it was purposely built "in harm' s way" to show the visiting public
ways to adapt existing homes and build future homes to better safeguard
families. The innovations featured in the house are the product of years
of research and the analysis of millions of property loss claims involving
the destructive force of high winds and hurricanes. |
